Geoffrey D. Smith, MA
Executive Director

A resident of San Diego County since 1970, Mr. Smith has been involved in a variety of efforts devoted to environmental preservation and education. Mr. Smith has worked most recently as Imperial County Projects Director for the Desert Protective Council, and Staff Public Affairs Specialist & Volunteer Coordinator for the USDA Forest Service Cleveland National Forest. During a 20-year career as an applications software engineer, Mr. Smith worked for such companies as Johnson Controls, Logicon, Litton Data Systems, Scientific-Atlanta, Starkland Systems, Stellcom Technologies and The ComputerSmith. Mr. Smith served as staff Conservation Program Coordinator for the Sierra Club, San Diego Chapter 2000 - 2003. He has served since 1990 as Chairperson of the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve Citizens Advisory Committee, and is Vice-President of the Desert Protective Council. His serves on the executive committee of San Diego Conservation Resources Network, is a board member of the San Diego Tracking Team, and is founding coordinator of the San Diego Environmental Leader Network. For over twenty years Mr. Smith has been involved with federal wilderness advocacy, beginning with the California Desert Protection Act (1985 - 1994) and including the current California Wild Heritage Campaign, for which Mr. Smith has established the regional grassroots organizing entity, Wilderness4All. Mr. Smith possesses a BA in Biology from University of California San Diego, John Muir College (1977) , and an MA in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego (2005). He is married to Camille Armstrong who is employed as a kindergarten public school teacher in Valley Center; they met while working on the California Desert Protection Act together.
