Backcountry Outings
Join us on these hikes and campouts into the beautiful Eagle Peak Proposed Wilderness Complex, led by noted backcountry authority Cindy Buxton. No one knows these areas better than Cindy, who was been frequenting them on a nearly weekly basis for years. The theme of these Sierra Club outings is SDG&E's proposed high-voltage power line called 'The Sunrise Power Link'. Some of the route alternatives for this ill-advised proposal would run 500KV power lines with 7-storey tall tower structures adjacent to and in some cases through these pristine proposed wilderness areas. Join us on these hikes to learn why NO PLACE is a good place for the Sunrise Power Link, and why the project needs to be halted in its entirety. See you on a hike! - Geoffrey

Blissful night under the stars near the edge of the San Diego River Gorge. We’ll hike in 2.5 miles to our campsite in a huge meadow. Awesome Engleman Oaks. Old dirt road and easy cross country. Optional exploratory hike to view the San Diego River gorge. Small ponds nearby. Strong hiker-kids over 12 must have parent or legal guardian present. Moderate pace. We will be video taping. No Pets, radios, Ipods, video games, or alcohol. Brief mention of SDG&E’s Sunrise Powerlink, proposed option D route for 500KV 150 foot towers nearby. Long pants recommended. Bring a good story to tell or something small for show and tell. Minor fibbing during story time encouraged. Must call leader for sign-up.
